(TargetLiberty.org) – House Oversight and Accountability Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) has suggested that it is impossible that pursuing impeachment against President Joe Biden might not be necessarily the best option and that criminal referrals may end up being the way they move forward.

On Thursday, he told Newsmax hosts that he thought that the path to greater accountability would be through criminal referrals.

On Wednesday the House oversight Committee held an impeachment inquiry into the President. The Democrats had pressured the GOP into identifying the criminal conduct that their probe relates to. This is as many have doubted how the investigation into President Biden’s business dealings is going to be moving forward.

In an interview, Comer claimed that for Biden “real accountability” was going to be providing the Justice Department with criminal referrals. As he argued this is in part because the Senate is currently controlled by the Democrats who are not likely to allow the impeachment to go through. He argued that while he would vote to have Biden impeached. As he noted, the impeachment inquiry was going to allow them access to more tools that would help them gather information to bring the case to justice.

The Democrats during the hearing requested the Republicans and Comer to provide information on the crime or misdemeanor that relates to their investigation.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) even went as far as to question why the Republican party was moving forward with the impeachment inquiry if there are no charges.
