(TargetLiberty.org) – Former attorney Michael Avenatti had blasted the hush money case against former President Donald Trump in New York arguing that it was politically motivated and an attempt to block Trump from winning back the White House in 2024.
During an interview with Fox News Digital over the phone as Avenatti is currently in prison, he argued that he believes Trump is the system’s victim at this point. He argued that in the past this would not have been something that he would ever believe he would say but that if he was now coming to his defense, considering in the past he had been a big opponent of the former President that should be an indication of something.
Last week the hush money trial in Manhattan started. This is the first criminal trial involving a former or current U.S. President in U.S. history. Trump is facing 34 counts of falsifying business records in connection to a payment by his former fixer Michael Cohen that had been made on his behalf to adult film star Stormy Daniels so that she could remain quiet about her alleged affair with Trump before the 2016 presidential election.
Avenatti had previously been Daniels’s attorney but he is currently incarcerated for having stolen book proceeds from the adult film star, as well as defrauding his other clients. He also faced charges of obstructing the IRS.
Last month, Avenatti lost in the appeals court, which selected to uphold his four years in prison sentence and required him to pay $148,000 in restitution.
