(TargetLiberty.org) – On Tuesday, six Republican attorney generals collectively sued the Biden administration over the recent changes to Title IX. This is the fourth suit to have been brought forward against the revisions that would extend gender discrimination protection.

The newest suit was led by Tennessee and Kentucky who have argued that expanding the campus sexual assault rules would be overstepping the authority of the President. A day earlier a group of nine states had brought forward two suits in which they opposed transgender student protections.

According to the new changes to Title IX, the legislation would be expanded to protect LGBTQ students by extending protection to discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation. Previously the law only protected based on sex.

The suit argues that the changes being made to Title IX would be overriding the states’ laws that are put in place to protect young women in their bathrooms and locker rooms. In a statement, Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti (R) argued that following the adoption of Title IX it has been universally understood that there needed to be protections in place for female private spaces such as bathrooms and locker rooms. He continued by arguing that federal bureaucrats did not have the power to rewrite laws that the elected representatives of the people had passed. He added that he believes the courts would put an end to this “unconstitutional power grab” as he described it.

There were three more suits filed by Louisiana, Texas, and Alabama in which similar claims regarding the change are being made.
