(TargetLiberty.org) – On Sunday, Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) slammed former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton over her latest remarks about how the majority of students who were involved in the pro-Palestinian protests across U.S. college campuses were ill-informed and ignorant.
On Thursday Clinton had argued that the students who were demonstrating against the Israel-Hamas war did not know about Middle Eastern history or the history of many places in the world including the United States.
During his appearance on CBS “Face the Nation” Van Hollen had disagreed with the comments made by Clinton and had even told host Margaret Brennan that he considered those comments to be rather dismissive as the students were concerned about the high number of civilian casualties and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Van Hollen is known for being vocally skeptical about the federal administration’s response to the war and has previously pushed for President Biden to slow down military aid shipments to Israel because of the humanitarian crisis unfolding. He also opposed the report by the State Department that had not explicitly stated whether or not the Israeli military was responsible for war crimes.
In opposition to Clinton’s comments, Biden had argued that the majority of students are protesting because they are closely keeping track of everything happening in Gaza, and they are seeing that there is an extremely high civilian death toll.
He added that it is necessary for them to revisit past negotiations and history, but argued that the majority of students understood what was happening in Gaza in relation to civilian casualties.
