(TargetLiberty.org) – On Friday President Joe Biden had argued that he was going to be “happy” to be part of the general election debate against former President Donald Trump. This is the first time that Biden has made any reference to this after months of the Trump campaign and media networks putting pressure on him regarding the debate.
During a surprise interview with host Howard Stern, the president had answered a question about whether or not he would be willing to debate Trump. In response, Biden had stated that a debate was going to happen somewhere at some point and that he was happy to debate Trump.
These comments by Biden came as Trump sat in a Manhattan courtroom facing criminal charges of falsifying business records.
RNC Rapid Response Director Jake Schneider had quickly responded in a statement arguing that they needed to “set it up.”
The Biden campaign has for months now refused to commit to a debate against Trump. A top Democrat official has argued that the comment made by Biden had seemed to be more off the cuff and that it was not an official announcement.
Earlier this month a group of five major news networks had written to both presidential campaigns and had called for a debate between Trump and Biden. However, Biden’s advisers have slammed the presidential debate system and the Commission on Presidential Debates.
In November the nonpartisan commission had actually announced the locations for three debates as well as a vice presidential debate which would be taking place separately.
