(TargetLiberty.org) – U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton has slammed former President Donald Trump following his recent attacks on the judges who are tasked with overseeing the criminal cases against him. These remarks came after Trump’s recent attacks against the judge who is handling his hush money trial.
Walton told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins that the attacks on the judges and their families could undermine the independent judiciary risks. Trump most recently attacked Judge Juan Merchan’s daughter. Merchan is handling Trump’s case relating to the hush money payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels to cover up their alleged affair ahead of the 2016 presidential election.
On Friday Walton argued that it was disconcerting to have Trump making such comments about a judge, especially when those aggressive remarks came in the form of a threat towards not only the judge but also his family.
Walton has noted that ever since he started handling Jan. 6, 2021 court cases he has faced a number of attacks and that his daughter had also been targeted.
He argued that the reason they had taken on these jobs was because of their commitment to the rule of law and that judges can only effectively carry out their duties when they are not under threat of potential harm.
Loren Merchan, who is judge Merchan’s daughter, is serving as an Authentic Campaigns executive and has worked for many prominent Democrats including Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden.
