(TargetLiberty.org) – Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) in his recent comments argued that the criminal hush money case against former President Donald Trump was very important and argued that Americans needed to closely look at the court proceedings as they could affect their 2024 presidential election vote.

These remarks came after Trump’s legal team has repeatedly attempted to downplay the severity of the trial with attorney Will Scharf specifically stating that this would just be a “six-week-long media extravaganza.”

The congressman however has opposed this view arguing that this was going to be a “serious case” and even drew ties between it and the other cases the former President is facing relating to his attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

On Sunday, during an MSNBC interview with Jenn Psaki, Raskin argued that Trump’s people were looking to reduce the importance and significance of this trial. However, he opposed this view arguing that the trial was “perfectly emblematic” of the other trials out there.

He continued by stating that in reality all of the trials are about manipulation and attempting to interfere with the election which is something that they would be seeing in the Washington, DC, election interference case. He added that Trump had attempted to do it with fraud, then in the Georgia case, and that this was about financial manipulation.

Raskin argued that Trump’s people would be surprised to see just how many Americans would be tuning in to see what was happening.

Monday is expected to be the first day of the jury selection in the criminal hush money trial. Prosecutors have argued that former President Trump had attempted to illegally cover up payments in order to hide an alleged affair with adult film star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election.
