(TargetLiberty.org) – Donald Trump’s allies have entered the battle against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, by accusing him of having violated state ethics and election laws with his “shadow presidential campaign.”

On Wednesday, Make America Great Again Inc. filed a 15-page complaint with the Florida Commission on Ethics, in which they request the commission to investigate if the pro-DeSantis super PACs, his “personally lucrative book tour” and other state-level campaign contributions are “unlawful.”As noted in the complaint all of these have been helping DeSantis’s “personal political objectives” and have helped the governor further “his personal financial gain at the expense of Florida taxpayers.”

Trump originally announced his bid for the White House in November. Since then, his attacks towards DeSantis have increased, as it is widely speculated that DeSantis will be Trump’s biggest rival in the 2024 GOP primary.

Trump’s jabs usually include making a mockery out of DeSantis by assigning him a number of nicknames. However, this complaint marks the first time that Trump’s supporters have taken on the fight against DeSantis. It is also a formal legal fight instead of just a verbal attack or jab.

Taryn Fenske, DeSantis’ communication director called the complaint another one in a “list of frivolous and politically motivated attacks.” She added that it was “inappropriate to use state ethics for partisan purposes.”

The commission is currently made up of nine members, five of which were appointed by DeSantis. Even if they do decide that DeSantis would need to face penalties, those would most likely include fines, public censure, ballot disqualification, removal from office, or impeachment.
