(TargetLiberty.org) – On Monday, former President Donald Trump filed a defamation lawsuit against George Stephanopoulos and ABC over the questions he had asked Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) regarding her endorsement of Trump in the 2024 election.

The interview in question had taken place on “This Week” on March 10 and had made headlines as Stephanopoulos appeared to try and “shame” Mace who is a rape survivor over her support of Trump, arguing that she was endorsing someone who has been found to be liable for sexual battery. This was a reference to the defamation cases brought forward by E. Jean Carroll against Trump.

In his lawsuit, Trump argued that Stephanopoulos had repeatedly claimed during that episode that Trump had been found “liable for rape.” However, that is not the case as the court had only found that under New York law Trump was liable for sexual abuse and not rape.

During the interview Stephanopoulos had told Mace that two different juries and judges had determined that Trump was liable for rape and defamation. He had proceeded to ask her how her endorsement compared to those rulings.

Alejandro Brito, Trump’s attorney, filed a 20-page complaint in which he argued that these were false statements that had been made by Defendant Stephanopoulos and that he had made these statements with malice. He then pointed out that the jury had not found Trump to be liable for having committed rape, as Stephanopoulos had argued, but that despite this the host had made false statements that had claimed to disregard the truth.
