(TargetLiberty.org) – Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, criticized Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on border security, accusing him of not taking actions to eliminate the rapes and deaths of children that have increased as part of the border crisis.

Cruz specifically called Mayorkas’ behavior “disgraceful”  and stated that “the deaths, the children assaulted, the children raped, they are at your feet.” He then proceeded to call for Mayorkas to resign. Cruz further accused Mayorkas of undermining those serving in the Border Patrol and claimed that those officers “despise” Mayorkas because he is “willing to let children be raped to follow political orders.” He continued by stating that the situation at the border was a crisis and Mayorkas was not even willing to acknowledge that it was a “human tragedy.”

The exchange came at a time when the Republicans have tried to increase the pressure on Mayorkas following the testimony by Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz earlier this month. During the testimony, Ortiz made several statements that disagreed with the claims of the Biden administration regarding border security, the stop in the construction of the border wall and he even argued that the administration’s policies were making it harder for them to do their job. Ortiz also claimed that the U.S. did not currently have “operational control” of the border.

Mayorkas on the other hand argued that the U.S. had operational control over the border.

Last week House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green, R-Tenn., in an interview with Fox News Digital had called Ortiz’s remarks “earth-shattering stuff.”
