(TargetLiberty.org) – Republicans are trying to find how they should approach the topic of abortions in next year’s election, following the party’s defeat in the highly contested Wisconsin Supreme Court race on Tuesday.

Milwaukee County Judge Janet Protasiewicz’s victory means that for the first time in 15 years, the state’s Supreme Court in Wisconsin is going to be liberal-leaning. This could be particularly important on issues like abortion rights, with many abortion rights activists still fighting against the abortion bans that have been slowly spreading across the country following the overturning of Roe v. Wade last year.

Her win was also a huge boost for the Democrats who have seen abortion rights catapult them into victories across the country in the 2022 midterm elections. For Republicans, the victory in the Supreme Court race means that they will need to find a way to address abortion issues as they head into a highly contested Senate race in 2024 in the battleground state.

Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel told Fox News that when the loss is by ten points, then “there is a messaging issue and abortion is still an issue.” She added that the Democrats should not be allowed to frame what the Republicans’ position is and to be allowed to perpetuate “lies.” McDaniel proceeded to call on Republicans to start being on the offensive, especially on issues like abortions.

McDaniel added that “This is not an issue that is going away for our party in a post-Dobbs world” which is why they need to consider what they will do ahead of the 2024 race.
