(TargetLiberty.org) – On Friday, the first World Central Kitchen (WCK) ship arrived in Gaza transporting 200 tons of food.

The charity was founded by celebrity chef José Andrés, who put out a statement noting that his team would be providing aid in Gaza. The food was transported on a Spanish aid group Open Arms ship and is part of the effort of the WCK to provide as much aid as possible to the war-torn region through the sea.

On Tuesday the ship left a port in Cyprus. The organization has announced that they are already preparing to dispatch a second boat that would include hundreds of tons of aid, as well as heavy machinery that would help speed up the offloading process.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter Andrés had shared news of the arrival of the ship. As he pointed out online his team had managed to offload 12 trucks with 200 tons of food. He added that this was just a test and that in the coming weeks, they would improve their process and deliver thousands of tons of food.

WCK CEO Erin Gore, who had recently been in Cyprus, stated that they want to create a constant flow of aid that would arrive in Gaza by the sea, as it is needed for the area to have one more access point.

The release noted that as part of the delivery they have included legumes, flour, rice as well as canned vegetables and proteins. The efforts were organized in collaboration with Cyprus and the United Arab Emirates.
