(TargetLiberty.org) – Fox News host Shannon Bream in a recent interview asked Texas Governor Greg Abbott whether he was going to consider any gun safety measures following the mass shooting at Allen Premium Outlets in Allen, Texas, on Saturday afternoon which resulted in at least nine people, including the shooter, dying.

In 2023 there were at least 199 mass shootings in the U.S. according to the Gun Violence Archive. The frequency of these tragedies has led to many people supporting gun safety measures and many have even called for tougher gun control across the U.S.

Abbott’s interview with Fox News came only one day after the shooting. During the appearance, Bream was quick to bring up recent polls which showed that the majority of Americans supported the implementation of gun safety rules in order to curb gun violence in the nation. According to the poll, 87 percent of Americans were in favor of background checks for those wanting to purchase firearms, 81 percent supported enforcing existing gun laws and increasing the minimum age for the purchase of a firearm to 21, while 80 percent supported “red flag laws” and mental health checks for those wanting to buy firearms.

Abbott in response to these findings stated that state lawmakers were looking into a number of new policies that could help reduce gun violence, as well as laws that would block criminals from being able to obtain guns. He added that they were also considering increases in the penalties for possession of firearms by criminals.
