(TargetLiberty.org) – Following President Joe Biden’s debate remark claiming no U.S. troop deaths under his administration, gold star families expressed their frustration to the New York Post. During the debate, Biden claimed that he is the only president in this century to not have troops dying “anywhere in the world.” He further claimed that this was unlike what former President Donald Trump had done.
However, despite Biden’s claims during his time in office 16 U.S. troops have been killed overseas. Thirteen were killed during the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan on August 26, 2021, while the other three were killed less than half a year ago in Jordan. That is without taking note of all those who have lost their lives during training.
Mark Schmitz, father of fallen Lance Cpl. Jared Schmitz, who died in Afghanistan, told the Post that he was angered by Biden’s comments. He added that within minutes of these remarks, there were calls and messages on his phone as people were shocked by his comments. He added that he had been incredibly angered by Biden’s comments.
Steve Nikoui, whose son Marine Lance Cpl. Kareem Nikoui had also died in Afghanistan, also expressed dismay at these comments, stating that it was shocking as Biden had refused to honor those who had sacrificed themselves in service of the country. He proceeded to argue that the troops that were lost in Afghanistan were due to Biden’s incompetence.
The reactions underscore the deep-seated frustration and pain experienced by families who lost loved ones during Biden’s presidency, who have generally felt that the President has been overlooking their sacrifices.
