(TargetLiberty.org) – Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s predecessor, Cyrus Vance Jr. who left office in 2022 argued that he does not believe that former President Donald Trump is going to be sentenced to jail time after he was found to be guilty by a jury in the New York falsifying business records case.
On Sunday morning during an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Vance told host Peter Alexander that he would not be answering a question about whether or not he would have recommended that Trump go to jail if he was still the District Attorney. He added that this was something that Alvin Braggs, the current attorney, would need to choose.
However, despite this statement, he added that if he had been asked if the court should sentence Trump to jail time in this case, then his answer would be no. Still, he pointed out that this was a decision that Judge Juan Merchan would need to make.
Vance pointed out that the situation has been made a bit more complicated by the fact that Trump was found in contempt ten times during the trial. However, he pointed out that the sentencing’s proximity to the Republican convention would leave him surprised if Trump was imprisoned. This is because the two events are only separated by four days and Trump will be officially announced as the Republican party’s candidate on that day.
Vance also pointed out that the court has the option of adjourning the sentence till after the general election and making a decision later.
