(TargetLiberty.org) – GOP lawmakers gave Trump an enthusiastic welcome during his visit to Washington.
When former President Donald Trump returned to Washington, D.C., on Thursday, Republican lawmakers rallied their support behind him with a lavish welcome.
Trump, who is currently neck-and-neck with President Joe Biden in the Presidential race, thanked Republican House Representatives who attended a meeting with the former President at a club near the U.S. Capitol for singing “Happy Birthday” to him.
Trump turned 78 on June 14.
Thursday’s meeting was a special occasion for several reasons.
It was the first meeting Trump had with lawmakers on Capitol Hill since he left the White House in 2021 and marked his first trip to Washington, D.C., since receiving a guilty verdict in Manhattan on 34 counts of falsifying business records.
According to those in the room, Trump was in a defiant mood.
He took aim at Republicans who voted to impeach him after the January 6, 2021, Capitol protest and described the Department of Justice, which has been relentlessly pursuing him, as “dirty, no good bastards.”
After the meeting, Trump also took to Truth Social to describe the meeting with GOP Representatives as “great,” noting that plenty was “discussed,” highlighting that it was “all positive.”
Since the unprecedented outcome of his trial in New York, Republicans have become united in their support for Trump, denigrating the justice system that they believe has developed a bias against conservatives.
Trump’s presence on Capitol Hill also comes as the GOP in the lower chamber seeks to defend their slim majority against a potential Democratic takeover in November’s election.
