(TargetLiberty.org) – Member of “The Squad” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.) stated on Monday that antisemitism was undermining the progressive movement. While the representative is a vocal critic of the military operations by Israel against Gaza to fight the militant group Hamas, she argued during an online conversation about antisemitism that it assaulted American values.

During the discussion on X with Jewish Council for Public Affairs CEO Amy Spitalnick and former Anti-Defamation League staffer Stacy Burdett that antisemitism went against both American and progressive values. She added that it threatens a community that is crucial to them fighting against injustice and that when the Jewish community was under threat the values of the progressive movement were being undermined.

Previously Ocasio-Cortez had been accused of having made a remark that was antisemitic in a now-deleted Christmas Eve message where many parallels were drawn between Jesus’ prosecutors and modern-day Israel. This was referencing the historic charge that it was the Jews who had killed Jesus.

In an Instagram post, she had written that Jesus had been born in what is “modern-day Palestine” under a government that had massacred innocent people. However, in the New Testament Jesus was said to have lived within Israel’s borders and to have been killed by the Romans who were at the time the rulers of the territory.

The Democratic Representative has also frequently defended Squad members Democrat Reps. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib. Tlaib in particular has been censured by the House for making antisemitic comments and was removed from the House Foreign Affairs Committee for remarks she had made against Israel.
