(TargetLiberty.org) – On Tuesday, a Reuters/Ipsos poll found that the majority of Americans are concerned that the country is going out of control, especially following the recent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. Many also expressed concerns that the November 5 presidential election is going to spark even further political violence.
The two-day poll showed that Trump is currently leading against President Joe Biden by a marginal percentage of 2 percent, with Trump receiving support from 43 percent of Americans. In comparison, Biden has the backing of 41 percent. However, considering the poll’s 3 percentage point margin of error this slight lead is not a clear indication of a leaning to any one side. However, it has been suggested that it showcases an overall shift in voter sentiment following Saturday’s shooting during the Trump rally.
Eighty percent of voters, with similar shares in both major parties, stated that they agreed with the statement that the U.S. was “spiraling out of control.” The poll which took place online garnered the responses of 1,202 U.S. adults across the nation. Out of all the respondents, 992 were registered voters.
On Saturday, Trump had managed to avoid death with the bullet only grazing his ears during the start of his remarks at the campaign rally in Pennsylvania. Before being rushed offstage Trump could be seen with blood across his face calling for people to “Fight!” The rally shooting also resulted in the death of one attendee while two others were critically injured.
The poll found that 84 percent of voters had expressed concerns that extremists were going to commit violent acts following the election.
