(TargetLiberty.org) – The NAACP is pushing for President Joe Biden to pause weapon sales to Israel in order for him to increase his support with Black voters.
This push comes after it was revealed in a March In Our Own Voice poll that Biden could end up losing the support of Black voters because of the support he has shown for Israel. The poll specifically found that among Black voters 24 percent had argued that the Israel-Hamas war is very important ahead of the 2024 presidential election.
The civil rights organization has now released a statement in which they are pushing for President Joe Biden to put an indefinite end to the shipment of artillery and weapons to Israel and other states that are responsible for providing weapons to terrorist organizations, including Hamas.
In the statement, it notes that it is important for them to put an immediate stop to the violence that has claimed the lives of so many innocent civilians.
While the NAACP argued following the Oct. 7 attack that Israel does have the right to defend itself, it is also urging Israel to follow a military strategy that is in alignment with humanitarian laws.
The Palestinian Health Authority has noted that over 36,000 Palestinians have been killed during Israeli military offenses and that because of the war many Palestinians have been displaced. They have also pointed out that there is a scarcity of resources leading to many Palestinians not having access to food.
The International Court of Justice has accused Israel of being in violation of the genocide convention, however, these are allegations that Israel has denied.
