(TargetLiberty.org) – On Sunday, during an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) argued that people needed to be grateful following the shooting during former President Donald Trump’s rally, which is considered an assassination attempt on the former President’s life.

He argued that there are frustrations regarding the treatment of Donald Trump, but that while there will be an opportunity to discuss what is politically best for America, they should just take the day to be grateful.

Following Saturday’s incident, many legislators have issued statements that connect the shooting to Trump’s political opposition.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, after the incident, Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), who is believed to be on Trump’s shortlist for his running mate, argued that the assassination attempt had been the direct effect of Biden’s campaign’s rhetoric. Vance in his post argued that the Biden campaign had been focused on portraying Trump as an “authoritarian fascist” and that this rhetoric needed to be stopped.

Graham, however, argued that the shooter is who should be blamed for the incident. Still, he maintained that Trump was “not a fascist.” He added that if Trump wins it would not mark the end of democracy and that he is representing the views of millions of Americans. As he pointed out, the rhetoric right now is “too hot.”

In his message to Trump Graham, who was meant to play golf with the former President on Sunday morning argued that he was grateful Trump had not been hurt.
