(TargetLiberty.org) – The recent assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania has resulted in Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) being placed in the spotlight. The Pennsylvania governor has attempted to take on a unifying and consoling position following the incident.

Both the Democrats and the Republicans have praised the governor for his tribute to Corey Comperatore, a Trump supporter who was killed during the rally. Shapiro described the man as a “fellow Pennsylvanian” who had “died a hero.” Apart from Comperatore, who lost his life during the Trump rally, two others had also been critically injured during the shooting which was aimed at killing Trump.

The Democratic governor has emerged across the country as a Democratic leader now and is considered by many to be one of the governors who will be in a position to try and win the Democratic nomination in 2028.

Across the United States, Republicans and Democrats alike have been pushing for national unity and for the political rhetoric to be toned down. For Shapiro, who is the governor of the state where the incident took place, he has had to take a more head-on approach.

A day after the shooting, the governor addressed the probe into the incident during a press conference. He proceeded to praise Comperatore who had used his own body to shield and protect his family during the shooting. He noted that Comperatore had been a firefighter, a ‘girl dad’ who had loved his community and attended church on Sundays. He added that the man had been a strong supporter of the former president and had been excited to attend the shooting.
