(TargetLiberty.org) – Marcus Allen, a former FBI staff operations specialist, successfully settled with the FBI after his security clearance was revoked over “security concerns” regarding his “loyalty to the United States,” as announced by his lawyers on Tuesday.
In 2022, the FBI suspended Allen’s clearance, alleging he failed to disclose crucial information about individuals involved in the January 6 events. They expressed concerns that his perspectives on the protests might impact his professional responsibilities, according to a letter the FBI sent to Congressman Jim Jordan, a Republican from Ohio.
Allen, along with two others, testified in May 2023 before a House committee investigating claims of the federal government’s misuse of power against conservatives, accusing the FBI of overreach and retaliation.
The investigation by the FBI suggested that Allen displayed “questionable judgment, unreliability, and a reluctance to adhere to rules and regulations,” questioning his ability to secure classified or sensitive data.
As part of the settlement, Allen not only had his security clearance restored but was also awarded 27 months of back pay and benefits.
Tristan Leavitt, Allen’s attorney and president of Empower Oversight, declared the outcome a “total vindication” for Allen and criticized those who had spread false accusations against him, posting on X that they should feel ashamed.
Representative Jim Jordan, chair of the House Judiciary Committee, affirmed the reinstatement as a “complete vindication for a great patriot.” He praised Allen for courageously highlighting misconduct within the FBI, despite facing significant opposition from FBI officials and some congressional Democrats. Jordan also called for the reinstatement of security clearances for other whistleblowers, Garret O’Boyle and Stephen Friend.
In addition, Allen had lodged a complaint with the Justice Department’s Office of the Inspector General, claiming his suspension was an act of retaliation for whistleblowing. The FBI and Allen agreed to resolve the dispute without any admission of wrongdoing by either party. Allen officially resigned from the FBI on Monday.
