(TargetLiberty.org) – Former President Donald Trump is likely to have his gun license revoked following his conviction on 34 counts of falsifying business records in connection to a New York hush money trial.
A New York Police Department spokesperson revealed that following his indictment, Trump’s gun license had been suspended in New York. It is usual for gun licenses in New York to be completely revoked after a conviction.
Currently, it is not clear when the last time that Trump held a gun was, however at the time of his New York City trial his gun license had been active. Trump has been under the protection of the Secret Service since he became the GOP nominee in 2015.
On Thursday a New York jury had found Trump to be guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records in connection to a case relating to a hush money payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election. This is the first time that a U.S. president has been involved in a criminal trial and has been found to be guilty.
Trump’s sentencing is set to take place on July 11, only four days before the Republican National Convention where he will officially become the party’s nominee for 2024.
Last month during a keynote speech at the National Rifle Association’s annual meeting, Trump had pushed for gun owners to vote in the election.
The Biden campaign criticized Trump regarding his statements about the gun license being potentially revoked, with campaign spokesperson James Singer arguing that when Trump stated that he would not do anything to block convicted felons and dangerous people from having access to guns he was talking about himself.
