(TargetLiberty.org) – Democratic strategist Ameshia Cross argued during a recent appearance on “Cuomo” that the calls for former First Lady Michelle Obama to launch a presidential campaign were coming from the GOP and not from the Democratic Party. As she argued this is part of the Republican party’s attempts to put a different candidate against Vice President Kamala Harris, who is currently the presumptive Democratic nominee.

As she told anchor Chris Cuomo she does not believe that this push was because the right wanted to see Obama run, but rather because they were hoping they would get an opportunity to bring Michelle Obama down.

Cross, who was a former Obama campaign staffer, noted that Michelle Obama has made it clear that she is not interested in launching a bid for the White House. She added that instead of running against Harris, Obama is much more likely to act as a surrogate helping bring in additional funding.

Former President Barack Obama released a statement following Biden’s announcement in which he supported his exit from the presidential race. However, he did refrain from endorsing Harris as the next Democratic nominee.

Cross argued that she believed the reason for Obama’s choice was “procedural” and that he had done so to show respect to Biden. On Wednesday Biden is set to deliver a scheduled address, after which point she argued it is likely that Obama will also show his support.

Within the first few days of launching her presidential campaign, Harris has fundraised a record amount of funds and has received a lot of support. This is a trend that Cross believes is going to carry the Vice President into the upcoming presidential election.
