(TargetLiberty.org) – Following the announcement of Vice President Kamala Harris becoming the likely Democratic presidential nominee, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear (D) has become one of her biggest supporters, often attacking back against Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), former President Donald Trump’s running mate.
Vance and Beshear have been sharing a heightened number of barbs over the past few days, with Beshear having referred to Vance as being “phony” and not being “one of us.” These come at a time when there are a lot of speculations regarding who Harris is going to select as her running mate if she ends up being her party’s nominee.
The two men come from neighboring states and have often fought over who is the true representative of Appalachia, a significant geographic area around the Appalachian Mountains. During an appearance on MSNBC, Beshear was asked whether he would consider becoming Harris’s running mate. In response, he argued that this is something he would listen to. He proceeded to tell the network that he wanted Americans to know what a true Kentuckian was like and stated that Vance was not from there.
Vance in response to Beshear’s criticisms pointed out that it was “very weird” for the governor to be critiquing his origin story when he had just inherited from his father the governorship.
Beshear, whose father was former Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear (D) slammed this comment during an appearance on CNN. He proceeded to state that Vance was “grasping for straws” in his attacks against Harris and the Democrats.
He also slammed Vance for his memoir “Hillbilly Elegy” in which he details his upbringing in Middletown, Ohio.
