(TargetLiberty.org) – President Joe Biden released an address from the Oval Office detailing the reasoning behind his decision to drop out of the presidential race when it had become clear that stepping down was the only way to unite the Democrats. His decision had come after weeks of pressure where many Democrats had been calling for him to step down.
The President had previously claimed that he would not be dropping out of the presidential race and that the only way for him to change his mind was if a higher power had come down and talked to him. Despite these claims, Biden did cave to the pressure as many Congressional leaders had pushed for him to drop out of the race as his position could result in losses in both chambers in the upcoming election.
In his statement, Biden argued that in the past few weeks, it has become clear that he needed to take steps to bring unity to his party. He added that there was nothing that could come in the way of saving U.S. democracy, including personal ambition. This is why he decided that the best way for him to move forward was by letting a generation take over. He noted that this was the best way to unite the country.
As he pointed out, the cause of the United States is larger than any one person. Following his announcement that he was dropping out of the presidential race on Sunday, Biden threw his support behind Vice President Kamala Harris, who has helped reenergize the party in the race against former President Donald Trump.
