(TargetLiberty.org) – Former President Donald Trump pushed the idea that the COVID-19 virus originated in China and instituted a travel ban from China in February 2020. The mainstream media and Leftist politicians cried foul. They mocked him and called him racist. Then-candidate Joe Biden posted a tweet stating the country needed science to lead the approach to the pandemic and “not Donald Trump’s record of hysteria, xenophobia, and fear-mongering.”
Two months later, Trump suggested he’d seen evidence the coronavirus originated in the Wuhan Institute of Virology. The nation’s intelligence communities publicly disputed that claim. As it turns out, the former president may have been right all along.
On May 14, 18 scientists published a letter in Science Journal calling for a more comprehensive investigation into the origins of the coronavirus pandemic. Then on May 23, The Wall Street Journal reported three researchers from the Wuhan laboratory checked into a hospital with medical “symptoms consistent with” COVID-19.
Biden Punts the Investigation
On May 25, the Biden administration effectively punted responsibility to the World Health Organization (WHO) to lead the global effort to get to the bottom of the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic.
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki dropped the news on the world during a White House press briefing that afternoon. According to her, Biden acknowledged a need for an independent investigation into the coronavirus’ origins, “one that’s run by the international community.” She said the US would participate in that effort by providing research materials and other resources.
Pressed on the matter, she said since COVID-19 led to an international pandemic, “the WHO would be the body… overseeing a transparent, independent… investigation.” She also called on Chinese officials to “be more transparent” and “put forward data” on the virus’s origins.
Why the US would trust the WHO after the organization was less than honest early on about the possible source of the virus is beyond belief.
Facing mounting pressure from Democrats and Republicans alike, Biden directed US intelligence agencies to provide a more definitive answer regarding the coronavirus’s origins on May 26. The services had narrowed it down to two theories, animal to human transmission, or it originated in a laboratory. He gave them 90 days to provide an answer.
