(TargetLiberty.org) – On Monday, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre blasted Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for signing gun legislation into law “behind closed doors.”
Taking to Twitter, Jean-Pierre claimed that DeSantis’ decision was “shameful ” especially considering that a week ago there had been another school shooting. She further added that “Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed into law a permitless concealed carry bill” which would completely eliminate licenses for carrying concealed weapons. As she argued this is the exact “opposite of common sense gun safety.” She further argued that the people of Florida are the ones who have suffered because of the inaction surrounding gun control, as was clear from the recent shootings, “from Parkland to Pulse Nightclub to Pine Hills.”
This series of tweets came one week after a transgender former student entered a private Christian school in Nashville, Tennessee, and killed three adults, Head of School Katherine Koonce, 60; substitute teacher Cynthia Peak, 61; and custodian Mike Hill, also 61, and three 9-year-old children, Hallie Scruggs, Evelyn Dieckhaus and William Kinney.
In her tweets, she also echoed President Biden’s calls to “ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.”
As she stated there have been too many lives that have been destroyed because of gun violence, which is why the President is calling on “Congress to ban assault weapons and high capacity magazines, require safe storage of firearms, eliminate gun manufacturers’ immunity from liability, and require background checks for all gun sales. She added that it is also necessary for state officials to also take the necessary action.
