(TargetLiberty.org) – Labor Day 2020 is over and the end of summer is near. The news cycle didn’t stop to eat a hotdog over the holiday weekend, unfortunately. One of the biggest bummers was when a Saturday, September 5, boat parade celebrating President Donald Trump ended in disaster. Several vessels sank while on Texas’ Lake Travis as a result of rough waters.
Here are three more big stories from the holiday weekend.
Secretaries of States Issue Warnings
On Sunday, Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson told NBC’s “Meet the Press” that the state isn’t going to have its full results on Election Day. The secretary said it might not be a fast count, but it will be accurate.
Ohio Secretary of State, Frank LaRose, expressed frustration about a lack of poll workers in his state. He said that although he has done everything the law allows him to do, state lawmakers should have taken action.
The COVID-19 pandemic, coupled with states across the country expanding mail-in voting, could very well lead to delays. President Trump has warned about that repeatedly in the last few months.
New Trump Policy Announced
On Friday, Office of Management and Budget Director, Russell Vought, sent a letter to federal agencies directing them to end racial sensitivity training that mentions the critical race theory and white privilege. The Trump administration is specifically seeking to put an end to anti-American propaganda that teaches employees that any “race or ethnicity is inherently racist or evil” and the US is an “inherently racist or evil country.”
In other words, President Trump wants Americans to treat one another with respect and doesn’t believe government employees should be trained to believe white people or the US are racist and evil. It seems like common sense, but of course, there are some people who believe the president is the real racist for getting rid of the policy.
US Soldier Injured
On Labor Day, a US service member was wounded and three Somali soldiers were killed after a car bomb exploded in Somalia. Al Shabaab, an Al Qaeda-backed terrorist organization, took credit for the attack.
Air Force Colonel Christopher Karns, a US Africa Command spokesman, told Reuters the American soldier was in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries. This isn’t the first time the terrorists have carried out a plot to kill our citizens. In January, three Department of Defense employees were killed after an attack on a base in Kenya.
