(TargetLiberty.org) – Russian President Vladimir Putin gave Twitter and other big tech companies a stark ultimatum on Tuesday – take steps to deal with child porn, or be banned in Russia. The move follows thousands of requests to delete banned content that, Russia says, Twitter has ignored.
Russian internet regulator Roskomnadzor says it has sent Twitter more than 28,000 requests to delete over 3,000 tweets promoting pedophilia, suicide and drugs, but the offending messages are still there. Now, patience has run out. On March 16, the agency told Twitter it has 30 days to take out the trash, or its services will be locked in Russia.
Good. Putin has no time for child pornography and pedophilia unlike Jack

Critics say the threatened crackdown is really aimed at Putin’s opponents, specifically jailed politician and activist Alexei Navalny. Of course, there’s a simple way to find out if they’re right or not. In other words, is it really about banned content? – Twitter can remove the tweets and see if it gets blocked anyway. So far it hasn’t done so; now it has less than a month to decide.
