US Vows Response to Alleged Attack From Iran

(TargetLiberty.org) – Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has vowed an “appropriate response” to Iran’s latest aggression. This comes after making it clear the US holds the rogue state responsible for the murderous attack on an Israeli-owned tanker last Thursday.

In a statement on Sunday, August 1, Blinken said he was “confident” Iran had committed the drone attack that killed two crewmen on MV Mercer Street off the coast of Oman on July 29. Israel and the UK have also directly accused Iran of carrying out the attack, in which a British security guard and a Romanian sailor died.

Blinken said, “There is no justification for this attack, which follows a pattern of attacks and other belligerent behavior.” He went on to say the US administration was, “working with our partners” – most likely the UK and Israel – to decide on a response, and warned that retaliation “will be forthcoming.”

The administration is currently trying to bring Iran back into the failed 2015 nuclear deal, which Biden helped negotiate — and former President Donald Trump pulled out of — after Iran repeatedly violated its terms. Renewing the deal would lift international sanctions and allow Iran back into the global oil market, while pulling out would seriously harm the Tehran regime. Will Biden be willing to take that step?
