Tyler Perry Speaks Out Against Hate in Powerful Speech

(TargetLiberty.org) – Actor and director Tyler Perry made a stirring plea for unity at Sunday night’s Oscars ceremony. Urging the audience to reject hate, Perry called for racial tolerance – but also risked angering the far Left.

Perry, best known for his acting roles and cooperation with the Oprah Winfrey Network, was awarded the Jean Hersholt award for “outstanding contributions to humanitarian causes.”

In his acceptance speech, he said he hopes people will teach their children to “just refuse hate.” He said he refuses to hate people because of their race or sexual orientation; then, as the online audience applauded, he continued, “I refuse to hate someone because they are a police officer.”

Perry backed Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election and is generally seen as a liberal-leaning centrist, but by speaking up for cops, he could be risking the wrath of the far Left. Other celebrity award winners – Travon Free, for example – used their acceptance speeches to push anti-police rhetoric. They got loud applause.

However, when Perry said he refuses to hate cops, and that police are not the enemy, the clapping died quickly. Perhaps that says all we need to know about rich leftists.
