(TargetLiberty.org) – Recent reports have claimed that former Fox News Tucker Carlson is going to “torch” Fox News in an attempt to free himself from a contract that blocks him from collaborating with any other networks or from creating a rival network to Fox of his own.
According to a report from Axios, there is currently speculation about the possibility that Carlson might support a new media enterprise backed by billionaire Elon Musk. Carlson’s Hollywood lawyer Bryan Freedman specifically noted that it was “beyond preposterous” to believe that anyone would be able to stop Tucker from speaking up.
The report further noted that Freedman was currently working on a settlement for Carlson with Fox News, which would free the former host from the noncompete and nondisparagement clauses in his contract which is according to the contract going to expire after the 2024 presidential election.
Fox would often renew contracts for major talent after Presidential elections passed, which is something that Carlson’s contract also points to. Carlson has stated that he was looking forward to returning to television soon, however in order to do so he would need to get Fox’s approval or rather get the network to waive these two clauses.
Entertainment lawyer Andy Lee, who is not connected to the case has argued that in certain circumstances pay-or-play provisions could end up being “challenged” but most networks believe that they are “relatively ironclad.”
The Times has noted that for Fox News there are concerns about the possibility of Carlson joining a competing network like Newsmax and taking his 3.5 million loyal viewers to a different network.
