(TargetLiberty.org) – During an appearance on MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show” E. Jean Carroll told host Rachel Maddow jokingly that following her win in the defamation suit against former President Donald Trump were she was awarded $83 million she would be going shopping.

However, the “joke” from Carroll led to outrage online as many people believed that her stance had undermined the defamation suit she had brought forward.

Last week, a New York jury had ordered Trump to pay $83.3 million in damages. The defamation suit is the result of Trump denying the sexual assault allegations that Carroll had made against him. Carroll had accused Trump of raping her in a department store in the 1990s.

Carroll, who has made a number of stops as part of her media tour, was asked by Maddow about her previous comments when she had argued that the money she has been awarded as a result of this case would be used to “shore up women’s rights.” Carroll enthusiastically responded that she had such good ideas about “all the good” she would be able to do with all of the money awarded to her. She then proceeded to joke that the first thing they were going to do was go shopping together, including buying new clothes, shows, and a few gifts for her lawyers.

Carroll had then proceeded to ask Maddow what she wanted and then joked that she could get her a penthouse or a trip to France. She then ended that statement by noting that of course, she had been joking.

The clips quickly went viral with many people arguing that these comments had undermined Carroll’s credibility.
