(TargetLiberty.org) – This week, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R) warned that former President Trump’s legal troubles could end up being a “distraction” for Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign.

Hutchinson in an interview with USA Today stated that “out of respect for the institution of the presidency of the United States,” Trump should withdraw his presidential bid if the Manhattan district attorney decides to proceed with charges. He stated that under these legal circumstances, it is hard to be running for President.

Hutchinson further stated during the interview that Trump should have chosen not to run because of the multiple investigations that he is currently involved in. He added that while he knows that Trump would claim that all of the investigations are politically motivated, the fact remains that the investigations cause a lot of turmoil.

Hutchinson mainly referred to the Manhattan district attorney’s probe into the payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels in exchange for her silence in 2016. It is alleged that the payment had been made on behalf of Trump it was alleged that the two had had an affair.

Trump has repeatedly denied the affair and has denied all the allegations related to the case. In a statement on Thursday Trump said “I did absolutely nothing wrong, I never had an affair with Stormy Daniels, nor would I have wanted to have an affair with Stormy Daniels.”

However, prosecutors in Manhattan have indicated that they might be closer to potentially indicting Trump in this case.
