(TargetLiberty.org) – After a week of curious speculation about the House Speaker’s position, a spokesperson has confirmed that former President Donald Trump doesn’t actually want the job.

Trump revealed during a radio show last month that some of his supporters have asked him to run for the Senate. When host Wayne Allyn suggested he should run for House Speaker instead, he played with the idea briefly. Although every speaker so far has been a member of the House of Representatives, there’s nothing in the Constitution that says they actually have to be, and Trump whimsically called the suggestion “interesting.” He was probably trying to sidestep it gracefully, but of course, it sparked wild speculation.
On June 21, Trump aide Jason Miller said the former president has “zero desire” to be Speaker. In fact, he’s busy enough endorsing and supporting candidates in the growing Republican fightback against the Biden administration – and, while he hasn’t confirmed another presidential bid in 2024, polling shows he still has massive support from the GOP base if he does seek a second term. Nancy Pelosi can probably serve out her last term in peace.
