(TargetLiberty.org) – On Saturday, former President Trump called for protests following his comments that he suspected he would be getting arrested in connection to the investigation relating to the hush-money scheme.

Trump took to Truth Social on Saturday to state that according to leaks he expected to be arrested on Tuesday in connection to the Manhattan District Attorney’s investigation into a hush-money payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels during Trump’s 2016 campaign in exchange for her silence. He ended his post by writing, “Protest, take our nation back!”

People on both sides of the aisle have criticized these comments and have drawn a connection with when Trump had called his supporters to protest following the 2020 election. That protest had led to the Jan. 6 Capitol attack.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) on ABC’s “This Week” stated that there was no reason for people to protest Trump’s potential arrest as “no one is above the law.” She added that the investigation needed to be allowed to proceed as needed and if needed to “bring indictments.” She proceeded to say that this was how the legal system operated and there should be no reason for any protests.

New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R) also spoke about the potential indictment and warned against the situation turning into a “political circus.” He then added that it was necessary to ensure that things would be as “peaceful” as possible. He further claimed that there were other more pressing issues than this one that people needed to be placing their attention on and that it was “unfortunate this has taken the headlines.”
