(TargetLiberty.org) Former Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows has received a subpoena from the Department of Justice’s special counsel Jack Smith. Meadows is going to have to hand over any documents as well as provide testimony in relation to the events of Jan. 6, 2021.

Smith is investigating former President Trump’s role in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection. This is not the only subpoena to have been sent out recently concerning this case. Earlier this month, Smith also subpoenaed former Vice President Mike Pence to testify before a grand jury as part of the investigation.

Smith is overseeing both of the investigations into Donald Trump by the Department of Justice. This includes the investigation into his involvement in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack as well as the case relating to the possible mishandling of classified documents that were recovered by the FBI from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.

Pence has vowed to oppose the subpoena stating that he was prepared to bring his legal case to the Supreme Court. On Wednesday following his event in Iowa, he had told reporters of his intentions. He further claimed that the subpoena’s request was both unconstitutional and unprecedented.

Meadows was with President Trump in the Oval Office at the time when rioters entered the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. In previous probes, Meadows has claimed executive privilege in order to avoid the investigation.
