(TargetLiberty.org) – Former President Trump is expected to win the Michigan GOP convention following his victory in the state’s primary.

The Decision Desk HQ (DDHQ) shows that this latest victory has led to Trump’s presidential rival having been dealt another blow. Despite her losses in all of the primary races so far Haley has pledged that she is going to continue in the Republican primary race until Super Tuesday.

In Michigan Trump managed to easily defeat Haley winning by over 40 points. This has awarded him 16 delegates. On Saturday the Republicans also held a convention which has awarded 39 delegates, following the change in the primary date by the Democrats.

The DDHQ has estimated that following the convention Trump had won the support of all 39 delegates in the Republican convention.

Michigan Republicans opted to hold both a primary under the new date, which did not comply with the national GOP rules as well as a convention. The majority of the delegates ended up being awarded at the convention as a compromise.

In part, this issue is the result of the in-party fighting in Michigan as former Michigan GOP Chair Kristina Karamo and former Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich.),  who the national GOP views as the new chair, decided that separate conventions were necessary for the state to award the GOP delegates.

Earlier this week a judge had ruled that following the GOP’s vote to have Karamo removed from her position, she could not retain her position as chairwoman. However, Karamo has opposed this ruling.

Michigan is an important battleground state that is sure to play a crucial role in the 2024 presidential election in November.
