Trump-Endorsed Ally Sweeps Up in New Poll

(TargetLiberty.org) – There’s more good news for former President Donald Trump, as an Iowa Republican he’s endorsed opens up a huge poll lead over a potential Democrat rival. Following on from last week’s Texas primary results when candidates with Trump’s endorsement swept the field, it shows the 45th president still holds the loyalty of the Republican base – and is well placed for a new run at the White House in 2024.

A new poll by Cygnal, conducted from February 20-22, matched Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) against former Democrat congresswoman Abby Finkenauer in a hypothetical contest for Grassley’s Senate seat. The pollsters asked 610 likely voters how they felt about the two politicians – and 53.4% said they would vote for Grassley. Just 38.5% preferred Finkenauer, with 8% undecided. The poll also found Grassley has a 2.5% net favorability rating, meaning a majority of Iowans approve of the job he’s doing.

Of course, the poll asked voters how they would vote if the election was held “today,” while in reality, it will be on November 8. The question the Democrats will be asking is whether President Biden can dig himself far enough out of the hole he’s in to give candidates like Finkenauer a chance of victory. Grassley, who’s held his seat since 1981, doesn’t think so. Will the midterms prove him right?
