(TargetLiberty.org) – Former President Donald Trump announced his presidential campaign for 2024 in November 2022, and recently his campaign has gained a lot of traction. However, a growing number of Americans believe that he should suspend his presidential election following his indictment in a New York City Court.

Last Tuesday, Trump was arraigned in New York City in connection to charges made against him by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg who has been leading the investigations into his alleged 2016 hush money payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels in exchange for her silence regarding their alleged affair. Trump is the first U.S. president, either sitting or former, to have faced criminal charges in history.

According to a new ABC News/ Ipsos poll, 48 percent of Americans believe that Trump needs to suspend his presidential campaign. This marks a 5 percent increase from last year.

More specifically 53 percent of respondents believe that Trump did something intentionally illegal, while only 20 percent believe that Trump did not do anything wrong. At the same time 11 percent believe that what Trump did was improper, but it was not intentionally illegal.

Of those asked 52 percent also stated that they believe the charges were something serious, marking a 2 percentage points increase since last year, and 39 percent said that they did not believe the indictment was serious.

Forty-five percent of Americans also believe that Trump should be charged with a crime, marking a five percent increase from last week’s poll, while 32 percent believe that he should not face any charges.
