(TargetLiberty.org) – On Monday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) during an interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham argued that people needed to have the right to endorse anyone they wanted in the primary race without having to fear that they might end up being attacked over their choice of candidate. This statement was in reference to the recent attacks issued by former President Donald Trump against top evangelical leader Ban Vander Plaats and Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds. Both of them were attacked by Trump following their decision to endorse DeSantis in the presidential race.
Trump, who continues to lead the GOP primary race, blasted both leaders for their support of DeSantis. DeSantis stated in response to these attacks, that Trump had been “out of bounds” with his remarks regarding Vander Plaats and Reynolds.
Trump in his attacks had referred to Reynolds as the United States “most unpopular governor.” However, Reynolds continues to be popular in Iowa. He further called her “disloyal” and promised that this move was going to ruin her “political career.”
In his criticisms of Vander Plaats, Trump alleged that the evangelical leader was known for scamming candidates and argued that he was only looking for a win. He also argued that nothing the leader said should be believed as he had accepted a payment of $95,000 in order to endorse a presidential candidate who had no chance in the general race. He added that this was not what the presidential election should be about.
