(TargetLiberty.org) – Four U.S. citizens were kidnapped in Mexico this week, two of them were found dead. Following the incident, there are new calls for further protection and a focus on the southern border, with many lawmakers pushing the Biden administration to take action in order to crack down on the cartels.

Biden administration officials have noted that the killings were “unacceptable.” This latest incident could lead to even more tension in U.S.-Mexico relations as authorities try to decipher the facts of the case. U.S. and Mexican authorities have been collaboratively searching for the four Americans that were kidnapped after crossing the trip to Mexico in order to get medical assistance. The group was kidnapped on Friday.

On Tuesday two of the Americans were found dead, one was injured and the fourth one was alive. According to the FBI report, unidentified gunmen fired against the Americans’ vehicle after they crossed into Mexico. They were then kidnapped by armed men. Officials have not yet disclosed whether the Americans were specifically targeted.

John Kirby, a national security spokesperson for the White House told reporters on Tuesday that “attacks on U.S. citizens are unacceptable.” He further added that the administration would work closely with Mexico’s government in order for justice to be served in this case. Kirby also said that it was too early to determine whether policy changes would be necessary following the incident. However, some lawmakers have already put out legislative prescriptions.
