(TargetLibertty.org) – Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) declared her opposition to calling witnesses in the Senate impeachment trial of President Donald Trump. That means the case will move to a final vote of the men and women acting as jurors without further input from the House Managers or the president’s defense team, save closing arguments and possible motions.
Although Sens. Mitt Romney (R-UT) and Susan Collins (R-ME) turned on the party leadership and voted with the Democrat block, that still left the Senate at 51-49 against calling additional witnesses, which should decide the issue. Unlike the supermajority of 67 votes needed to remove the president from office, any other questions that arise require only a simple majority.
Of course, much as the Republicans decried the Impeachment Inquiry run by House Democrats as a politically motivated hack job, the Liberals are shouting the same thing back after this development.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) threatened a “reckoning” for Conservative Senators after the “farce” this trial has been. It looks like the Congress elected by the American people doesn’t grasp the fact that their constituency is fed-up with their partisan nonsense.
Sadly, it doesn’t seem that the divisive discord will end any time soon. Certainly not before November and probably not for a long time after the 2020 elections.
