(TargetLiberty.org) – The CDC and President Donald Trump’s administration have said it’s safe to start reopening state economies. Many governors are taking the president’s advice and slowly getting their states back to normal. A handful of them, however, have decided they know what’s best and are prolonging draconian stay-at-home orders and taking their residents’ freedoms away.
Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick recently called out those states.
Strict Lockdowns
There are six prominent states still stuck in a lockdown: New Jersey, New York, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Illinois, and California. They don’t seem to be in any hurry to get their residents back to work.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI) extended her stay-at-home order until June 12. Governor Gavin Newsom (D-CA) said he doesn’t know when he will lift the shelter-in-place order and return the state to normal. New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy is leaving his order in place “until further notice.” The governor of the hardest-hit state, Andrew Cuomo (D-NY), has no clue when his order will end. Finally, Governors J.B. Pritzker (D-IL) and Tom Wolf (D-PA) won’t reopen until June at the earliest.
With unemployment rising and many workers still waiting for checks for their jobless claims, things are getting dire. People need to get back to the routines of life and work.
Not Mincing Words
During an interview with “Fox News @ Night,” Dan Patrick mocked the “shutdown six” for refusing to open their states. He told host Shannon Bream that Cuomo was “wrong on everything,” and he failed to protect seniors in the state of New York. Meanwhile, in Texas, officials took things very seriously and their state is reopening right without a glitch.

Ignoring Their Own Guidelines
What’s even worse is that some of the governors aren’t following their own guidelines. Earlier this week, Whitmer was heavily criticized after her husband asked a dock owner to put their boat in the water for Memorial Day.
Over in New Mexico, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) allegedly ordered jewelry from a non-essential business after ordering many companies to close their doors. The state isn’t part of Patrick’s “shutdown six” but it had a similar stay-at-home order — and it illustrates the hypocrisy.
The American people in all states need to get back to their normal lives. If these governors continue to force businesses to stay closed, they’re destroying their own economies and hurting residents for no reason. It’s appalling!
