(TargetLiberty.org) – A leading Republican lawmaker has thrown down a challenge to elite Democrats, telling them that if they insist on letting illegal immigrants into the country, that’s fine – as long as they’re processed and released in the sort of places elite Democrats like to hang out.
On October 19, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) announced he’s introducing a bill to create new processing centers to address the flood of illegal immigrants currently overwhelming border officials in the southern US. The catch is he wants to put them in the upscale liberal towns where top Democrats spend their summers.
I'm introducing crucial legislation to alleviate the massive overload at the southern border by establishing new ports of entry in Democrat-led communities such as Martha’s Vineyard, where Democrat elites host their cocktail parties. #BidenBorderCrisis https://t.co/3cX9i8NPlk

Introducing his Stop the Surge of Unsafe Rio Grande Encampments (SURGE) Act, the senator called out Palo Alto, California, North Hero, Vermont and Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, as good locations for new processing centers. He said those locations would take the pressure off the southern border and “require insulated communities to help shoulder the burdens of their preferred open-border policies.”
In his press release, Cruz pointed out that the impact of illegal immigration mostly falls on ranchers and small businesses in Texas and other border states. The Democrats who are advocating for the current policies aren’t the people suffering from them. His SURGE Act would change that and bring the effects of the immigration crisis home to the Democrat leadership. Will they still be so welcoming if that happens?
