(TargetLiberty.org) – An Atlanta company director says she was fired because her stepson was fired from the city police force and charged with a fatal shooting. Her employer says she was dismissed for “creating a hostile work environment…,” despite not having been in the office since the shooting happened.

Melissa Rolfe is the stepmother of former Atlanta cop, Garrett Rolfe, who’s been charged with murder over the June 12 shooting of Rayshard Brooks. Brooks was arrested for being intoxicated while in charge of a vehicle at a drive-through restaurant. When Rolfe and his partner tried to cuff him he struggled with them, stole one of their tasers, then fired it at them as he ran. Rolfe returned fire with his handgun, killing Brooks.
Six days after the shooting, Melissa Rolfe, who hadn’t been at work since Brooks was killed, received a phone call from her employer, Equity Prime Mortgage, telling her she was being terminated immediately. She was given no reason. Since then the company has claimed that Rolfe’s support for her stepson was “creating a hostile work environment…” – even though she hadn’t been there. Something smells fishy.
