(TargetLiberty.org) – A senator has condemned an investigation into a St Louis, MO, couple who prepared to defend their home against a mob of protesters. He’s saying the persecution of the armed citizens is “an abuse of power.”
Last Sunday, Mark McCloskey and his wife Patricia were at their home in a gated community when a large mob broke down an iron gate and entered the property. Realizing that some in the crowd were armed, the McCloskeys retrieved their own guns – an AR15 rifle and a handgun – and stood outside their home to deter aggression.

Now, circuit attorney Kimberly Gardner is pushing the St. Louis Police Department to investigate the couple, although no charges have been laid against them yet. Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) has condemned Gardner’s move, pointing out that under Missouri’s castle doctrine the McCloskeys had a right to defend their property. He also pointed out that Gardner has failed to charge anyone at all in connection with violent rioting reported to her by the police.
