(TargetLiberty.org) – On Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) characterized Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s (R-Calif.) decision to make thousands of hours of security footage from the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol available to Fox News host Tucker Carlson as “despicable.”

When asked whether he would share footage from the attack, some of which was already made available to the public during former President Trump’s 2021 impeachment hearing and during the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection hearings, Schumer said that the footage shared would need to be reviewed by experts.

He continued to say that McCarthy’s choice to share the footage exclusively with Tucker is “despicable” and could pose security risks for the Capitol. He proceeded to note that if McCarthy continued to listen “to a small group of the MAGA right” then he would find himself in trouble.

Last week it was announced that McCarthy had granted exclusive access to thousands of hours of Capitol security footage from Jan. 6 to Carlson. This brought forth a lot of criticism as Carlson had previously worked on a 2021 documentary series in which he alleged that the Capitol attack was a “false flag” operation meant to turn the public against former President Trump and his supporters.

On Tuesday, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) avoided saying whether or not he agreed with McCarthy’s decision to give Carlson access to the footage. The GOP leader maintained that his primary concern is the Capitol’s security and that the Capitol had been “severely threatened on Jan. 6.”
