Schumer Backpedals After Threats Spark Backlash

( – Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is scrambling to save face after threatening two conservative Supreme Court justices.

Speaking at a rally outside the Supreme Court Building hosted by the Center for Reproductive Rights on Wednesday, Schumer made loosely veiled threats against Supreme Court Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh.

He added that they won’t know what hit them if they don’t vote the way he wants on the abortion case the court is currently hearing.

The backlash from his comments was swift and fierce. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) slammed Schumer for his threats. Chief Justice John Roberts issued a rare rebuke, calling Schumer’s words “irresponsible” and “dangerous.”

Schumer’s office accused Roberts of bias but also began scrambling to mitigate the damage his threats have already caused.

“I’m from Brooklyn. We speak in strong language,” Schumer said in defense of his earlier comments, as if that somehow excuses his words. Although, he did admit that he “shouldn’t have used the words” he did. A career politician should know better.
